HIV Rates In Black Women Higher Than Previously Thought
(Undated)  —  African American women are infected with HIV at a higher rate than other races, and the problem is much worse than health care providers had thought, according to a new study.  Researchers from the New Jersey Medical School found that two-thirds of new HIV cases in the U.S. infect black women, although black women make up only 14-percent of the female population in this country.  The study also found that the HIV death rate among African American women is 15 times higher than the death rate among white women.  Results of the study were presented at the 19th Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Seattle.
