A beloved children’s park in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood has been closed indefinitely at the request of the U.S. Secret Service to enhance security around the home of Republican Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance.

The increased security measures at Judy Lowe Park, known as the “Tot Lot,” include checkpoints and restricted access to nearby streets. While residents are disappointed by the closure, they understand the need for heightened security.

The city has encouraged residents to visit other parks, but no timeline has been provided for when the park will reopen. Despite the closure, neighbors recently gathered for a farewell dinner in the park.
